Nice to know he's starting to come out of his shell a bit.

Heck, it may very well even be as a Norwegian Drummer God. Why the heck not?

My 15 year old drumming, tromboning, guitar shreading, ipod/cell phone addicted, all-knowing, just-2-merit-badges-away-from-Eagle-scout son is much the same way. He sends me into worlds of ticked off that I should not visit and just about the time I am about to do something that he is seriously going to regret... he does something that shows me a glimpse of the man is becoming. All I can say is thank God we have them. Life would be boring without them!

Still, the Army needs drummer godz, too. Encourage the lad to be good at snare, traps, and mallets; and perhaps he'll do both!

What's a Norwegian drummer god? I was born and raised in Norway, and haven't seen one yet...

He's going to be a professional musician, I have no doubt. He's still looking for himself. Someday he'll find it, but until then, it's a lot of letting him fall on his face.

I thought the military might be good for him, but he deals with ADHD, depression, anxiety disorders and, occasionally, obsessive/compulsive behaviors. Oh -- did I mention three, maybe four co-occurring sleep disorders? He'll go for days without sleep, get his days and nights switched around, etc., on a regular basis.

But leave it to my wife to bring me back to earth. One particularly difficult day, she said, "Look at it this way: he's proudly straight-edge, so he's clean and sober. He's never had a run-in with the law. And he's no one's father. Maybe things aren't so bad after all."
Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!

In my opinion, it sounds like you are giving your son just what he needs - love and support. Let your son make his own mistakes and learn from them. He will find his path.

I wish you all the best of luck!
