Piece of advice on bow ties: either make your own or find a good seamstress/seamster in your town and give them your business. You just CAN'T find good bow ties in nifty patterns if you're not in a major metro area.
Actually -- I do that for most special items of clothing. I like really WILD Hawaiian shirts. Picked out some fabric that'd make yer eyes bleed and had one made. I've found some really sweet Chinese brocade in the fabric store and now need to make some ties out of it. Can't buy 'em that wild.
Go to the fabric store, and look for Simplicity patterns for men's evening accessories. They'll have patterns for bow ties and all kinds of things.

For bow ties I've had pretty good luck with Beau Ties Ltd.. Granted, I've only bought a couple formal ties, and I'm not precisely a connoisseur, but I haven't had any trouble with them. The nice thing is that you can order virtually all their bow ties in standard, jumbo, or slim depending on how large you like the bow.

Certainly an option! Thanks for the link, Fluter.
I looked over my pattern stash last night and found two packets of accessories patterns which include cummerbunds, sashes, straight ties and bow ties:

Heh. I always tell my male journalism students that if they're covering the court beat, to wear a clip-on tie. Learned that lesson the hard way, I did.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…
