I am a bit of a color person, Barb, and I agree, My suggestion would be to match the yellowish-orange stripe in the tartan, but stay just a smidge lighter than the actual stripe itssef. Then match it with a tie in the color of the similar sized blue stripe. Would pick up both accent colors in one fell swoop.

I am left speechless with the beauty of the entire outfit.
Will look excellent with the minor tweeking mentioned.

I think it look excellent as is, remember that highland wear is not all about matching anyway. You could also try a light blue shirt with a yellow tie, yellow garters as shown would work and possibly hose to match the brown in the kilt.

Show off!
Looks like SOMEONE has "empty nest" syndrome...
Honestly, the only way you could improve on that outfit is if it was a MacGregor tartan. No, seriously, dude...
And not meaning to step on anybodies toes here (I mean it's just fashion, right?) but I poo-poo on the idea of a coloured shirt looking better than a nice crisp white oxford. Aint no way, man! Not in the South.
If I were a Brit I could probably tell you how to match a tattersal(?) shirt with it, which with lovat green hose would be the total package for the Country Squire look! Unfortunately matching tattersal is outa my league... I think the lovat green is the best all round day wear colour for hose for virtually every tartan/kilt- it doesn't necessarily have to "match" cause it will always look good, and goes with both brown and black leathers.
And I feel your pain about the 98+ degree weather! Good luck finding a time of year to wear that ensemble! Though as good as that looks I would probably brave even 98+ degree weather in it. MAN! You just don't know how envious I am of that... Curse this bloody recession!
Guid on ye, dude! I think even Jock Scot might even agree with me- you've pretty much nailed it! Well done!
Cheers,
Wesley

Steve, looking very sharp! Very good look on you.. Change up the kilt hose, and you have a hit. Shirt.. A tan, ecru, light blue, even a pale yellow.

Awesome . I especially like the detail of the flaps over the pockets on the waistcoat.
You look like your ready to go play at the glenfiddich or the open boards at oban.
Nice brown brogues too.
