Don't want to hijack the thread or throw a wet blanket on your impending celebration, but if your kilt is in customs at FeDex you should probably be aware that you will likely receive either a phone call or email from them about import tariffs (depending on the material and value of the kilt as listed on the shipping manifest) as FeDex is a stickler about collecting customs fees, and then tacking on their own additional handling charge to boot. It may not happen, and if so I will be happy for you, but it is better to know about it in advance rather than be surprised and shocked when they contact you.

On your waistcoat dilemma I would listen to our style gurus McMurdo, Panache, and Jock Scott for the best advice. Realize though that it is only advice, not a dictum. Wear what you think looks good.

That said I just don't find the pattern and style of the firsts set of vests you posted to fit with a kilt. However I see that the second ones might work nicely. It would really depend how long they are in comparison with one's jacket and wear one's sporran rests. If they are too long they would need to be altered to make a good kilt waistcoat

Good Gracious Sir I should hope not!

Instead you should present the dapper and dashing appearance of none other than KD Burke!

He will have his own take on highland attire that will suit him to a T,

and he will look great in his own way!

Re: the first waistcoat you had listed, I think the cut of that waistcoat is just fine, but the design on the material is a bit much. I think a solid color would be better.

Re: the second waistcoat you lined to, I actually like that one a lot. I have a very similar style waistcoat in black that I wear with my black Argyle. I really like the lapels, and the four pockets. (Helps me stay better organized).

I know you were thinking of red for a contrasting look, but maybe these pictures will at least help you visualize that that style of vest looks like on. I've worn by black one formally...

    And more casually...

I think contrasting color waistcoats can look just grand, if everything is selected with an eye towards toning the color and pattern of jacket, waistcoat, and kilt.

I appreciate all the good suggestions!

ForresterModern, I appreciate the heads-up. Fortunately I was already aware or the necessity of paying duties on this.

I can't really quibble with FEDEX for scrupulous observance of the law.

Those are some really sharp waistcoats, although as others have stated, you need to be careful which ones you wear with a kilt. It looks like they do carry a couple in tweeds that could work very well. I wasn't aware of this site before you posted the link, but I really like their style.

    Careful of the waistcoat length

Just a thought before you order your waistcoat - do check out the length. I have a couple of waistcoats I wear with trousers and two I wear with my kilt. The ones made for kilt wear are a full 2 or 3 inches shorter because of the high waist. If you wear a normal waistcoat it really does hang down too far (and often hangs below the front of a properly cut kilt jacket which looks funny).

The "flat bottomed" waistcoat in your first picture will probably be much better from that perspective. If you can order them in different lengths ordering say a 40 Short rather than a 40 Reguar can do the trick. Otherwise if they are sized only on chest size you may need to get it taken up at the shoulders as I have with one of mine.

I think either of those would work wonderfully well.
I personally plan to get a few waistcoats similar to the first one to wear with a regency style formal jacket. I think it will look very dapper so long as the colours don't clash with the Kilt.
And the plain red one would also look wonderful!
