My son learning the blacksmith trade. Our clan smith was impressed with is focus. He completed his first project in less than 10 hours of work. I'll post pictures of it tomorrow after I get batteries for my camera:

Sadly this is the only pic I have of my wife and myself, at this point.

And finally- because she deserves her own page- the patron saint of selflessly feeding large groups of people just because she likes us- Virginia, caterer of the Renaissance Scots:

Next up- the Colorado Scottish Festival and Highland games in Highlands Ranch http://www.scottishgames.org/ , and then to Jackson Hole http://www.wyohighlanders.net/index.php?page=festival . I should have some batteries for my camera by then... so I can have some pictures of my own to post!!

Ah!! They were made by our weavers in the natural color. I teased him about that once, myself.

Sorry I missed it, looks grand. Had to put out those dreaded business fires.

We are a very close group, as you can see by the fact that I trust Ciff with my son in a smithy. It's a lot easier to get hurt working around that kind of thing than it is to create. I actually feel like I trusted that guy with my sons life- or at least his safety. So that should tell you something about how close our group is. And the great thing about living history as opposed to simple reenactment is that we don't just relive a specific event- we learn and pass along dying skills to a new generation. We actually got into a discussion about how easy it would be for us to hide in the mountains and survive a zombie attack... Half of us are seasoned hunters as well!! Steal some sheep, hunt some deer, set up camp- we're good to go!! No zombies eating my brains!!

I'm good, Jock! Thanks for asking! I'm glad you like the pics. We have a new member who is right out of the Royal Air Force, and an expatriate Highlander. He said we made him feel right at home, which is quite a compliment. He's the gentleman on the far right in the grey tartan great kilt.

The weavers also have a new apprentice, so it was nice to get some fresh blood into the group- especially one with a real accent!

Yes we do- on both counts! I tell you, it takes me 2 days to get rested up from it all, and 2 or three weeks to heal from the injuries we inflict on each other! We don't do the whole "pull the strike and get a point" thing when we compete with each other. It's full force combat. Anyone jumping me on the street if I have a 3 foot long stick handy would be in serious trouble...
