I'm sorry, but my copy of "The Rules" was damaged when someone errantly sprayed ale all over it while reading it. Could you please quote what Article 183, Section 42, Paragraph 9a says in regards to this situation?

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Ditto.
Except, when I'm wearing a formal sporran, I go with the chains and buckle in the back.
Mostly, I use a sporran belt with the buckle on the right hip.

Sir William,
I'm sorry, but you of all people should know that the offices of the Department of Highland Security cannot reveal the contents of "The Articles of Propriety and Regulations Regarding the Wearing of The Kilt" in a manner that may fall into the hands of unauthorized individuals.
For a replacement copy of "The Rules" please remit 12 box tops from shortbread and 12 pull tabs from Irn Bru and a self-addressed, postage-paid envelope to the address on the back of your decoder ring.

Well, I may be a little odd, but I adjusted my kilt straps so that my sporrans hang comfortably (about four fingers below the belt). Then I leave the straps fastened at the buckle, and simply unhook one strap from the D-ring on the sporran back. To put the sporran on, I support it with one hand, wrap the buckled strap behind my back, and hook the strap onto the D-ring. No need for adjustment.
For driving short distances, I shift the sporran towards me once I've gotten seated, so the strap slips down below the level of the kilt belt. Since they're the same thickness, I don't feel the buckle pressing into my back. For long distances I simply leave the sporran off until I get to my destination.

Which doubtless explains why we see so many wearing the kilt improperly!

Fortunately for me I just returned from Scotland so the shortbread box tops are not a problem, though I need to catch up on the Irn Bru.

Ron, that's just about the most preposterous thing I've ever heard in my entire life. How could you even think of wearing your sporran strap in such a way?!? I'm apoplectic!
