Definitely like pants. I own two. Not my fave but they are cool for what they are--a very lightweight, summer time knock around kilt. Because the cotton fabric is light it wrinkles very easily. If that's an issue for you, you'll be ironing or steaming your AK often.

AK's
They are much lighter weight than UK's (though I saw the Amerikilt booth at the Maryland Irish Festival a few weeks back and they are getting into some heavier materials.) They are great for mowing the lawn and hanging around the house, but are definitely a summer weight kilt.
I have had two Amerikilts for about 8 years now and they do hold up well for the price. A real "starter" kilt, if you will.
They are also supernice people to deal with, and make a great kilt belt.

I have two (one of which was my second kilt after the great kilt I bought for the Ren Fair). They are a good value for the money. I agree with the descriptions given by previous posters. Iwould personnaly, knowing what I know now, recommend spending a little more and getting a made to measure kilt from Flamingo kilts, which will fit better and is better material.

I have two Amerikilts which I bought back in 2003.

I like the very clean design of the Amerikilt, only a few buttons on the front and no cargo pockets. To me it is by far better than that of Utilikilts.

Unfortunately the kilt wrinkles pretty much.

The olive green, which I bought some months later, tends to wrinkle less, without being perfect, however. The wrinkling problem might very well have been solved since then, but to me it is rather annoying.

Amerikilts come with a sporran in the same fabric and colour as the kilt itself. I think it is a very good solution.

The sporran is detachable. Here it has been replaced by a belt pack but you could also use leather sporran or the cargo sporran from Stillwater.

I have a black Amerikilt that I used to for Highland Games competing. It has since become my go-to kilt for lounging around the house and walking the dog . Very comfortable and very well made. It isn't very heavy , but that is why I bought it. I had a very good experience when I ordered it , and may order from them again . As others have said , it does tend to wrinkle and curl some , but it serves it purpose well.
