The handle is hollow. Knife tang and blade base are engaged to the handle by way of brass washers, steel and copper tubing, and silver solder.
I gave my gram scale to a friend, and need to get another so that I can weigh stuff, including this knife. I imagine that it weighs a little more than antler or wood, but just how much would only be a guess. Proof will be in the numbers. It can't weigh so much as to tug your hose, or cause abberance in claudication (gimp, limp, etc).
2 knives will cut you: a dull one, and one that lacks sufficient substance. This is neither.

Have you coated the handle with lacquer or some sort of protective? I can see it picking up stains from your palm and they are not easily taken back off. Copper is not very forgiving. How heavy is it and what is the balance like?

That's very cool. I really appreciate using unusual materials for the grip.

No laquer. That stuff cracks, peels, scratches, and goofs up....might take a while, but it will never disappoint you. There are myriad reflections and shadows in the pictures. You are seeing higlights after buffing with white diamond, followed by red rouge.
The natural color of copper will return, rather quickly in a high sulpher environment such as coastal Florida or Louisiana. Slower in the Chesapeake, even slower in Washington state. Any color is easily taken off....just use a Sunshine cloth judiciously, or use any "polish" to return to the bright buff.
Copper is a very forgiving metal, and it is easly manipulated according to the wishes of the wearer. I perfer the natural chocolate brown to any other.
How heavy? Not very. Balance? You can take this thing into any task and love it.
