I escaped Oregon in 1965 and have only been back once in '68 for a brief visit...but I do remember Eugene as sort of "different" than most of the rest of Oregon...more liberal/tolerant/accepting than other towns.
But I think kilt acceptance has more to do with the demeanor of the kilt wearer than the surprised reactions of locals - where ever you kilt.
Kilts work for me in my local bastion of yesteryear.
