As I assume you will be wearing this kilt for evening formal evenys, I would suggest getting some black and white diced hose, or better yet, black, white and red diced hose.

Plain red/maroon hose will work too.

Cluny Macpherson wears these hose in the evening:

I think the hose match exceedingly well.

I also like the use of the Chief's cap-badge used as a lapel pin - makes for good identification when the Chief is indoors and not wearing his hat.

For formal events, I really don't think you can beat the custom Argyle hose like Cluny is wearing. But I really like Sandford's idea of black and white diced hose. I think these would especially look sharp with castellated tops, worn with black garters.
