Very interesting, I've never made it to Ireland but it's on the list. We have a similar geographic feature in the SW U.S. called "Devil's Postpile," I recall a visit as a youngster. Of course yours is green all around and ours is brown!
I had no idea that parts of Ireland had that much volcanic "residue," learn something every day!
