Nicely done, Alan and thank you for posting the images. I do not think I know any of the dancers, but I have spotted a couple of familiar faces in the background!!
Take care,
Ham.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Gay Gordons (London) in Edinburgh
The dances were, and not in the order of the photos, were
1. The Sailor
2. A medley of Mairis Wedding and J B Milne
3. City of Belfast

What a shame that the original meaning of gay has been hijacked and used for another meaning altogether. Each to their own I fully accept, and after too many years of the word being used in its modern meaning I don't suppose that much can be done about it, but I still feel that the English language is the poorer for the loss. As in Gay Gordons, for example.

Well, you just go ahead and be sad about it, Jock. Some people think language is richer when words gain new meanings. And besides, language changes over time. Just try reading Canterbury Tales in its original English, for example.
Oh, yeah - and thanks for derailing a nice thread.
Regards,
Rex.

Good photos Acaig,, thanks, it's great to see shots of the dancing in action, I keep meaning to go to their practice sessions in London, somehow I keep missing them.
Well said Rex, Where is the ,if you can't say anything nice Jock, don't say anything?
We all know language changes,it's neither good nor bad, it just changes and we all learn to live with it, well almost all of us learn to live with progress

The real shame is that the original meaning of the thread has been hijacked. The original meaning of gay has not changed in 700 years. The application of the word has evolved. It is not those to whom it has been applied that changed it but those who meant to disparage them. Rather than being poorer, the English language has been enlarged.
Now back to the subject: The dancers look fantastic. It looks like quite the event, and for a good cause!

I did not say anything untoward, I was just pointing out the sad loss of an original meaning of a word. What is there to take exception to? Come on, lighten up!
