Happy Birthday Devildogs! We had a birthday ceremony / cake cutting here in Afghanistan today. There's only one or two Marines on our base, but several retired or prior Marines. Many Army and civilians, including our Brigade Commander, came to share in the celebration!

His pride is his colors and his regiment, his training hard and thorough and coldly realistic, to fit him for what he must face, and his obedience is to his orders. "The Marines fought almost solely on esprit decorps, I was certain. It was inconceivable to most Marines that they should let another Marine down, or that they could be responsible for dimming the bright reputation of their Corps. Semper Fi. Happy 234 to all my brothers in the Corps.
Last Saturday I went to a wonderful ceremony at a shrine in San Clemente called Park Semper Fi. It has plaques and a statue of a full dress Marine facing the ocean and two flag poles holding the Stars and Stripes and the Marine flag. He is saluting. I met the General in charge of Camp Pendleton. It was the last day of my vacation and it was a great way to spend an hour or so. There were a batch of 1st Marines veterans from WW2 and a lot of very young Marines from today's Marines. All brothers forever.
