Hello! I am new to the community and would LOVE to attend (3, me, wife, daughter). And the dress code? Is this full on formal? Or just a kilt? Help! I'm a newbie!!

It's full-on formal if you've got it, or if you want to rent it. However, we've never turned anyone away on account of the fact that they don't have black tie on. It IS kind of "dress-up" though. If you're tight on dollars then do this: Wear your best kilt, hard-soled shoes with a bit of a shine on them, and your nicest kilt hose. Get out your best sporran, and if you only have one, then that's what you wear. Pull out a clean button-down shirt, iron it, and tie on a necktie. If you have a waistcoat, wear that. Don't wear a sportcoat, they are cut wrongly to go well with a kilt, but truth is that a couple of guys wear them anyway, so what the heck. Better to wear just a nice waistcoat than a kinda-dumb-looking sportcoat, but that' just my opinion. Maybe this is an excuse to get down to that proper retailer of high-end Scottish products...Target.... and look for a nice waistcoat to go with the kilt. They have tweedy-looking, herringbone, and also plain black waistcoats (vests) for $25, so you won't break the bank.
Get the wife to dress up nice. Maybe you can splurge and get her a sash in the tartan you're wearing? Hose off the kids, throw them in the dryer, and put them in something clean and respectable and come on down and party.
However, if you're seriously keen to go black tie, and you're on a severe budget, there ARE ways to more-or-less do it.

Truth: this Burns Night is about *people*...the fellowship and friendship of the Nor Cal Rabble of X Marks the Scot. "Looking good" is great, but it's second priority. That said, there *WILL* be people dressed to the nines, so gawk, talk and enjoy!

Excellent! It just wouldn't be a Nor Cal Rabble Burns Night without your piping, George.
Best regards,
Jake

BUMP!!! Make sure to get in your reservation
Hi All!
Reservations to the the Nor Cal Rabble's 4th annual Burns' Night Supper is going to be opened up to the Montevalle Community fairly soon so if you haven't contacted Madalyn yet please do so ASAP.
Last year we came very close to maxing out the the number of people we could comfortably have attend and we do not wish to see any X Markers turned away.
Nor Cal Rabble members, please check in with any of our gang you haven't seen in a while and give them a heads up (Tim, Motorman4life, Mike Steinrock, etc).
Maybe some clever Monkey (hint hint Jake ) could post links to the three photo threads from the previous year's festivities
Remember that all attendees are responsible for bringing something (like a single malt, side dish, appetizer, or desert) to share
See you there!
Cheers

Well, WalkerK had already posted a link to last year's, but since you ask so nicely, I'll post links to all three years in one place.
Year 1
Year 2
Year 3
My how we have grown! Greatly looking forward to year 4 (and many more).
Best regards,
Jake

Change in plans. Alas, due to a severe shortage of funds, I will be unable to attend the festivities. So take lots of pictures and I will plan ahead for the next one. Have fun.

I'm just making sure we don't forget about this-all those who have not yet signed up/sent Madalyn an email/pm/check, here's another reminder!
I can hardly wait!
Be well,
