That waistcoat definitely looks a bit small on you, I'd go up at least one size (2"). I think the length will work it self out once you get a better fit.
I agree with Zardoz, the waistcoat looks to be a size too small.

    Well, first of all: Welcome!

Other than that, I can see how you're a bit dissappointed. However in my experience, scotweb are a delightful folk to work with, so I'm sure they'll come up with a solution.

Was this an "off the rack"-item, or is it tailored to your measurements? The vest is too small for you, but if it's tailored to your measurements, the measurements might be wrong (or the tailor may have made a mistake, or they may have sent you another customers vest)... If it's off the rack, remember that US and UK sizes are different, so if you're a US 38 you need a UK 40 to fit you well. If your actual chest measurement is 38 inches, you may feel more comfortable in a size US 40 or UK 42 garment. Also never ever measure yourself, it always ends in gnashing of teeth. The problem is that tailors are too polite, so their inches are a tad longer than everyone else's ;)

Huh. Seems like I'm not helping at all, here!

Bottom line: Send the vendor your pic, ask them to compare with the pic on their website and tell them you were hoping for a vest a bit more like the one displayed in their "shop".

I'm still waiting to hear back from scotwebstore as to whether I can get a size larger (and preferably in a long, not regular). I'm thinking I'll have to just buy the larger size and get it shipped, so as to ship either one or both back at once and be done.

To your question, it is evidently an "off the rack" item. They ask for a chest measurement (which my wife did) and nothing more. Their sizing chart does provide for both inch and cm measurements, but I hadn't heard the suggestion to order a size up when I placed the order.

I may have to break down and simply phone them. Waiting 24 hours every time for an email response drives me crazy.

They're kinda sorted out. Still have to wait for a moderator on every posting, but I'll be a real boy soon enough.

My new waistcoat in a size 46 finally arrived yesterday, and I'm happy to report that the suggestion to go up a size was quite right. It still separates more toward the waist than the neck, but I think it only bugs me because it is different from anything I've worn before. The "tails" in the front (I don't know what the right name is) seem to frame the sporran nicely, so I think it's OK.

Now to send the other one back and I'm done.

This does sort of make me want an official Prince Charlie jacket now, though getting the measurements for THAT correct online would probably take divine intervention.

Yes it is way to small I went to the Scotweb link. If you look at the photo there you can see how much the shoulder portion hangs over about 2" or so. Then in your photo it looks like it drops off even before your shoulders.

Yep. The new one extends about 2" as you said. Roughly my second knuckle, using the my technical measuring tools.
