Debbie
You indeed have a lovely, antique genuine Argyll & Sutherland Highlander Sporran that dates obviously from before the second world war, more along the lines of those worn by the A&SH during and after the Great War. Excellent used condition for something 70 years or so old. You should find ample interest from multiple members here. Congratulations. And thanks for not just throwing it out as junk, as it is a real piece of historical military memorabilia, I am sure with a wonderful history.
Glad to see you got your picture up quickly.

That is a great piece. Almost anyone on this site would love to own that piece, but since kiltedwolfman was in the Argyls, I'd vote for him. At least give him first right of refusal; it's only fair.
That is a wonderful thing to own for the sake of history and owning something nice. The value is of no concern to me; the beauty and history is. I hope you either come to love it or find it a home with someone who does.

this may sound silly, but once it is sold to a good owner, who will take pride in it and clean it up, i would love to have at least a picture of it being worn, so i can keep it with the family items that i kept.

This is the sporran, nicknamed "the swinging six", that's always been worn by the 93rd Highlanders of Scotland. This regiment was amalgamated with the 91st Highlanders in 1881 to form The Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders.
This regiment survived up until a couple years ago when all Scottish regiments were amalgamated into The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
There have been a number of "Dominion" regiments allied to the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders over the years:
Canada:
The Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders of Canada
The Calgary Highlanders
Australia:
The Byron Scottish Regiment
These regiments wear uniforms partially or mostly based on that of the parent Scottish regiment.
You have a wonderful bit of history there!
The kilt that goes with this sporran is in "Sutherland" tartan, like Black Watch but slightly lighter shades, boxpleated to the line.

After much suching on the net I am guessing its called a sporran?
on the back it says A.ES.H. of C. reg't Property
J.G. Stevenson Glascow 1939
its black long fur with 6 white bell shaped fur things hanging from it..
can anyone tell me, exactly what this is?
Can it be told if there is history behind it?
whats its for?
is it usefull to anyone, is there a market to sell these?
whats it worth?
or should I just garbage it?
thanks
JG Stevenson was the maker. Apparently his base trade was leather.
As to value, I would look at the value of a newer, military issue horsehair sporran, and adjust UP from there. Horsehair sporrans in general are expensive, add the brass, the military and historical value. There's an ebay seller called bugpiper who frequently sells them. Look for his auctions to get an idea of a starting price for yours.
Of incidental note is the tartan for the A&S Canada is Black Watch.

Bugpiper, on his completed listings had an "unissued" swinging six go for $245. in as new condition, yours with some history and provenance could start there and go up.
Perhaps you could offer it up here for bid..............I'd be willing to start the bidding at $200. US. and it would definately get the care and feeding it deserved.
That said and with the offer made I would not stand in the way of an "ex" A&S'er from having it.
Cheers,
Ken

I would contact the regm't museum and see if they would be interested. I'd love to have it but would rather see it in a museum for all to enjoy.
That being said I'm chatting with the wife to see if we can reach an accord LOL
