OC Richard, I've also heard that referred to as a "Chinese Christmas".
After briefly searching the net, it appears there are several other names people use for this as well:
Yankee Swap, Gift War, Grinch Exchange, Dirty Santa, Rob Your Neighbor, White Elephant, Nasty Christmas, Thieving Secret Santa, and Grinch Exchange.

I especially like the Sgian Dubh kilt pin. I wish I had an instakilt for the beach. I love it, but those are my roots showing.
