All of the above is rather funny, ha ha....except that IN FACT.

    ...over the years.....

I have learned that what I just outlined is EXACTLY the wisest course of action.

Much too "period" for our liking, but thanks for the input.

Alan, You are a wise man and I hope your wife appreciates both your efforts to understand and your willingness to surrender. I expect many frustrations have been avoided by your chosen path.

DTY, have you spent some time on the Lasses' wear thread, preferably with your wife looking over your shoulder? There is quite a lot to see there, not all of it confined to variations on the tartan schoolgirl look ( not that there's anything wrong with it!). I stand by my original suggestion that you let her tell you how to use the tartan as accent, etc. Good luck to you as you wander this path...

Here's a softball physics question: what color is in the exact center of the visible spectrum, where the eye is most sensitive? What color is most difficult to match?

Could it be ... GREEN? There's actually a physical basis for some of this. As an exercise for the reader, get out your bottle-green hose, and see whether you can find a shirt that matches them exactly.

Nonetheless, Alan, you have my sympathy.

With almost no exceptions, the women associated with those nice men wouldn't be caught dead wearing anything like what we wish they would wear.

Don't waste your time buying anything, only to have to return something. For God's sake, don't waste dozens of hours making something that she won't touch. ASK her first and then LISTEN and do not stray one single stitch from what she tells you or you will do nothing but outfit the inside of her closet.

    Progress...

Thanks all for the input. I did in fact go through all 56 pages of the Lasses wear thread and my wife and I found some styles that have potential. This is definitely a project we'll work on together. I'v also found some potential patterns through the Lasses thread. They'll definitely go through wife approval before any production starts.

Further to, I think the wonderful pictures of Lady Fiona MacGregor (the Cheif's wife) posted in the Lasses thread are a profound statement on what Scottish ladies wear. This is really what I am after, tailored of course to suite my wife's personal taste (no pun intended).

It is quite normal for a Chief's wife to wear tartan, IF, she is accompanying the Chief at a clan event, OR, if the Chief and his wife are dignitaries at a games and not just a visitors. The picture of Lady Fiona, I think, illustrates the point perfectly with her charming outfit. However do not run away with the idea that that is normal female attire at a Highland Games in Scotland, even for the wife of a Chief. Unless the Chief's wife is taking part in an official capacity, then tweeds, jeans and a Barbour coat would be more the norm for her to wear.

Alan, you make me laugh! Whenever I buy something for my Mom, I just tell myself that it's a prettier version of a gift card, because she'll return it no matter what!
