Er, I think I understand what you are saying and forgive me if I have the wrong end of the stick, but some estate tweeds may not be for sale, no matter how much money you save.

I understand that Jock Scot. I am referring to the 'commercially' produced estate tweeds that he carries online. I am fully aware that the 'authentic' estate tweeds that the commercial ones are loosely based on, are indeed, not for sale and correct me if I am wrong, but may only be worn by estate workers such as gamekeepers, ghillies, head rangers, possibly tenants located on the estate, and the laird and his family. Correct? Do you hail from Lochaber? Must have a wee dram with you the next time I am in Ft. William-August 2010!

I did misunderstand, I am sorry. Private estate tweeds are at the gift of the owner to whoever he/she chooses, but you are basically right. I will be delighted to pop over to Fort William for a wee dram with you.

Paul, the jacket in the photo from the website has the body of the jacket a bit shorter than that sleeves, which is the way kilt jackets usually are.

But in the photo of you wearing it, it looks like the body is longer than the sleeves, which is the way "Saxon" (non-Highland) suit jackets are made.

Is that simply a distortion in the photo?

I could be wrong about that dark photo from the Web site, but it looks to me like a 1 button jacket. Looks very like the "Crail" from House of Edgar

The hem of Paul's jacket is about even with the sleeve, a reasonable length. Matt's Wallace jacket is a couple of inches shorter, which (I agree) seems to be the standard in many kilt jackets on the market. "Saxon" jackets historically (styles vary from year to year) come to about the middle-to-last joint of the cupped fingers, considerably longer than the sleeve.

This one. for instance, is in the queue to be bob-tailed.

I have that jacket too, also House of Edgar and it's got 2 buttons. The cut looks the exact same:
