OK, here are photos of one of the 1953 MOD "Culloden" sporrans, with the original MOD pouch in place.
I have just the cantle, exactly the same as in these photos, but I wanted a more authentic-looking 18th century style pouch, in dark brown leather, with the braided tassels etc.
I've seen a number of these cantles done up this way and it makes for a very nice 18th century look.
For those interested in the history of these sporrans, when Queen Elizabeth II's coronation was looming it was discovered that the ORs of the Highland regiments had nothing more formal than Battledress to wear.
Full Dress had been put into mothballs in 1914, never to be revived.
So a new "No1 Dress" was invented. It was quite odd in that, rather than going back to the fully-developed "Victorian" Full Dress of the 1855-1914 period, it reached back into earlier periods for its inspriration, using a coatee inspired by the one worn in the 1800-1854 period, and the Tam O Shanter/Balmoral and Culloden sporran, both reminiscent of the 18th century Highland soldier.
The Culloden sporrans were issued in plain buff/tan leather, then pipeclayed by the soldiers in a most un-18th century manner.
This 1953 No1 Dress didn't last long. By 1970 many of the regiments had returned to Glengarries and long horsehair sporrans and by 1980 the coatee was replaced by a doublet more or less like the 1855-1914 type.
