Perhaps? I didn't know the term before googling it just now, so I'm certainly no authority. These seem to be in that style, although the lace pattern runs only up the outside of the leg rather than both sides. Any more informed opinions out there? I think I'll eventually make myself a pair to match these, but in plain cream and with a tighter knit to make the lace panel a bit narrower.

I just turned the heels of my next pair of hose and it looks like I've solved by hole problem. I made 2 stitches between the heel and the instep. On the instep side I did a lifted increase from one row below. On the heel side I lifted the side of a stitch 2 rows down from the inside of the sock. This had the effect of pulling that stitch up right where my hole was forming. Sort of hard to explain without visuals. Basically I first worked 2 lifted increases between heel and instep. When I saw I still had the hole with that approach, I tried again knitting into the stitch below the hole from the inside of the sock and then working the instep lifted increase as normal. Does that make any sense at all? If it would be helpful for anyone I could try to post pics when I do my next pair.

I really dig the variegation, they look great!

With a turnover top about twice as long (or so...maybe a hair longer) and with a thick pattern to it, those would make an awesome pair of kilt socks.
