About a year ago I asked a similar question in a thread that got about 4 responses, so you are doing better than I did so far.
I can add one name to the list. Bonnie Heather Greene, aka Bonnie Heather here, has made two wonderful handsewn tanks for me from my fabric, both special weaves. Quality work IMHO and great to work with. Just got the second one today and it is a beaut. Bonnie rarely posts here but is a lurker, so PM her or go to her website bonniekilts.com (an appropriate and pleasant name for her business).
Barb and matt have already been mentioned, as have nearly all the other kiltmakers I can think of besides the obvious advertisers.

Amen. I have kilts made by Bonnie and Matt, and both are perfect in every way. The bonus is that both Bonnie and Matt are great communicators, and that is important as you well know Steve, being the communicating artisan yourself!

I was planning on making my own as soon as my fabric arrives.... Jura, 4 meters - got a really good price straight from the mill
But now this thread has me second-guessing if I really want to go through the process again..... (not to mention I no longer have 'the book' - would make it that much harder - been a while since I made one)
should be using my free time to memorize pipe tunes I suppose....
thanks for the thread!

My favorite hand sewn kiltmaker Kathy Lare www.kathyskilts.com in Albuquerque, NM made my X Marks tartan kilt from fabric I supplied. Imagine she could be added to the list as well.

This thread should be moved to a more appropriate forum. This topic is bordering on advertising.

Not Advertising
I really do not believe that this thread is advertising. When I was shopping for a kiltmaker I would have loved to have had this information.
Luckily, through this forum, I found Kathy Lare in Albuquerque. Rather than planning a trip to Inverness, which was on my list of possibilities, I found that I only needed to drive 3 hours to find a kiltmaker who had graduated from the Kiltmaking School in Keith and who was certified by the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

I recently sent Kathy Lare some woven tartan that was not worsted, Scottish kilting tartan and she politely wrote me back that she could not/would not make a kilt from it. She was very polite about it, a nice woman and I'd be happy to do business with her any time.
Just not THIS time.
