But, Ted, . . . would you be kilted?

    Um... No.

Not something wishes to pause to consider, but unfortunately death does visit us all eventually. I would definitely prefer cremation and wouldn't want a good kilt going up in flames with me, would rather see them passed on to a new generation of sons and grandsons who will hopefully be born during my lifetime.

    Lightbulb

A detailed will and funeral pre-planning are always a good idea. Nobody wants to think about their 'final plans' or funeral day, but it's a event we cannot avoid, so why not take a little control over it.

It can be as simple as just writing down some notes and letting some folks know where they are kept, or a full on Preplanned and pre-paid funeral. Preplanning at it's most basic saves your surviving loved ones from having to make the dozens of detailed, and expensive, choices about what they hope you would have wanted, on one of the worst days of their lives.

I know you say "I won't be there, who cares" but speaking as someone who has stood outside a chapel during a service because of the family fight over their 'guesses' about a loved one's final wishes, I'll tell you that you should care. I have unfortunatly had to attend too many funerals of family and friends over the years, and I bet at half of them somebody says "that is so not how he would have wanted this". I don't want to sound like a commercial, but this stuff is why I have mine planned in detail.

And yes, I plan on being kilted at the event. I have no kids, and more than one kilt, and have picked a favorite (and a backup) for the day.

I am planning to be cremated and have made that plain to one and all. It's a matter of not wanting to waste a plot of land where no one will ever go visit. If my ashes can be spread over the ocean, so much the better. Kind of a "home is the sailor, home from the sea" thing.

If I were to be laid out for public viewing and a wake, I would definitely want to be kilted with my best day sporrn and my masonic apron in place. Then I would want them to remove all the good stuff before closing the lid and shipping me off to the crematorium. That would be the best of both worlds.

Oh, and by the way, I have pretty well planned it all out, music and all. Funerals are for the living, and there are some things I want the living to take away--assuming anyone takes the time to show up. And, there are strick instructions to pass around a bottle or two of some 25 year-old scotch since I'm too cheap to buy it in this life.

There should be a few key songs: "Ashoken Farewell," "51st (Highland) Division's Farewell to Sicily," "Flowers of the Forest," and "Gong Home." All that . . .in a kilt . . .with bag pipes and mournful gaelic music! Dang, I'd hate to miss that!

I will pick out a nice inexpensive kilt to be buried in.

BUT FIRST, I want to die in a kilt. Preferably in bed. With a redhead lass half my age.

Amen brother! (although I'm more likely to check out kilted in a wadded up red car!)

That's my plan too. I hope that my kilts and accessories will be well-used by my sons, grandsons, etc. after I'm gone.

Some words of warning: don't get cremated in an acrylic kilt; it'll burn like crazy and stick to your skin!

Its cremation for me - then I want a some of my ashes left in all the places I so dearly love. The kilts belong to the next generation.
