I've been to Cozumel 3 or 4 times (my parents had a time share there at the Coral Princess... GREAT hotel by the way). It was 15 years ago now (pre-kilt wearing days), but there WERE lots of different nationalities there and it was a fun place. I would expect that your lighter weight kilts would serve you well.
I'm not sure EXACTLY where they were (it wasn't in Cozumel, but on the 'mainland'), but DO take a tour of the Mayan Ruins when you're there. VERY neat stuff.

I guess I'd recommend not taking your best kilt unless you have a special evening planned. A less expensive sporran belt might be a good idea, too. Other than that, just have fun! And take pictures! You always seem to find great places for taking pictures.

Ron, I've been to that area as part of a cruise, wore the kilt the whole time except for half a day of horse-back riding on Cozumel, with no issues, I don't have any pictures, our film camera with those shots got "lost" in a cab. The only comments I had about the kilt from the locals where the ones who told me they had never seen one before, but most of them just looked at me funny, just like at home!

USAK casuals and/or UKs. And get some Havaiana flip flops (they're the best!). Enjoy!

Wow, thanks guys. Alex, it was that thread of Rex's that convinced me to go kilted. Taking my USA Kilts Casuals, they worked so well in the humidity of Maui figured they'd work in Quintana Roo too. Wearing them with Teva sandals and Columbia river shirts - fishing shirts and a Tilley hat....and the ever present Stillwater leather Nightstalker sporran with leather sporran strap.
And, good point Zardoz....I guess if I can survive kilting in the Rezlands don't much matter anywhere else. Comfort is the issue. I'm very used to kilting in the wind so even in the lighter casuals think I'll be okay.
No stories of harrassment - only crazy fear/ponder/wonder.
And thanks for the tip on the Pescador

If you have time, try to get down to Xcaret. It is a beautiful park where you can cave snorkle. There are some Mayan ruins there and they have a magnificent folklore show at night so plan for a whole day there. It's worth it.

Xcaret is on the list - thanks. Been looking for biodegradeable sun screen and bug repellents so they'll let us in. Kilted snorkling....hmmmm

Pictures of someone proudly wearing the kilt AT THE PYRAMIDS will be priceless. Go for it!
My only advice, based on all the news coming out of Mexico from Cancun to Juarez, would be to put a .45 in your sporran (or carry a claymore).
Have a great trip.

Can't think of a single "cause" that would benefit from having a fat olde kilted man as a hostage...all his assets are tied up in kilts and his income is less than most school teachers...

Ron, Marilyn and I ate there and the fish was great. It looked like every thing on the menu was good.
I hope the comments about the drug wars were tongue in cheek?
We had no problem in Mexico and we rode the Bus all over Cancun and down to Talum.
