Happy S-G day! The bulk of my ancestors (Carpenters, Masons, Bickfords, etc.) were all from England, I'm proud to say....

    Happy St Georges Day everybody.

I am English by birth and the only non-English ancestors I have found are from Normandy.

Thank you all for your good wishes, and thank you Skauwt for thinking of this and starting the thread.

Ah, yes, the feast of The Holy Great Martyr George the Victory-Bearer and Wonder-worker. Interestingly, a Greek from Asia Minor is now considered the patron saint of England, the city of Moscow, and the Scouting movement, among other things. It's kinda neat how that's all international and all that.

Maybe that should be a sign for everyone to get along, and not worry about national rivalries. When you think about it, most patron saints are kinda like that. St Patrick of Ireland wasn't Irish. St George wasn't English. St Andrew was Jewish. They all testify to acceptance of others rather than triumphalism.

    Just my two kopecks.

I was always lead to believe that St. George was Lebanese. He's also the patron saint of Catalonia, you know.
