This evening I heard from the gentleman I pointed out in the above photo. Sounds like this "discussion" has been going on for at least the past 12 years!!
He told me he'd fill me in this weekend.
Stay tuned...

For aught yet seen you're a Keppoch, and that should be an end to it.

Your are so correct. I think this individual has some personal agenda from the sounds of it, and by exposing it to the light of scrutiny just might put a halt to this silliness

The direct Clanranald line died out 50 years ago and a Boisedale, a branch from the Clanranald clan has stepped up to the plate as Captain now. I'm sure in 100 yrs the remaining Boisedales will be having exactly the same argument. Or maybe all Clanranalds should be Boisedale now. You've got TWO new kilts to get. Chan eil aoibhneas gun Chlann Dòmhnaill

If I had this extensive historical research and result I would feel more than lucky. Sounds like you are part of the broad Macdonald clan to me.

Thanks
Yeah, the family roots (cousins etc) seem to extend far & wide within the clan...my direct line seems to mainly show up in Keppoch & Kintyre before moving across the water to Ulster.
There is so much more to tell, but its best saved for the genealogical section

An Opinion from Mac Mhic Raonuill

Well, just this evening I received a response from Mac Mhic Raonuill (the Chief of Keppoch) to my appeal for an opinion (see below), which I forwarded to the High Commissioner & Deputy High Commissioner (as well as the Genealogist who started this whole brew-ha) for Clan Donald USA.
I would hope that this would be an end to it once & for all --- unless (of course), verifiable documentation, & not speculation, to the contrary surfaces.
Until such time (if ever) comes to pass, I will proudly wear my Keppoch kilt with the pride of a descendant of the MacRanalds/McReynolds of Keppoch & Ulster!
forwarded message:

The answer is Reynolds, MacReynolds etc is a sept of my clan ; the Honourable Clan Ranald of Lochaber .
Mac Mhic Raonuill in English means The Son of Ranald's Son. It is well established and there is no need to continue to wrangle over a fact .
"Facts are chiels that wanda ding" goes the old Scottish saying. This fact certainly will no "ding" !
You all can join us now .
I am looking for enthusiastic loyal clansmen always !
