It looked like he had a trigger on his right hip. You can see him jerk his arm in right before the flames go off. Then when he's finished he reaches down and flips it off.
If you look close at the very beginning while they are chatting you can see the "pilot light" flame burning at the top of the drones. I imagine all the tubing can make it more challenging to tune having to try and adjust the drones and keep the tubing in order. Oh, I forgot we were talking about pipes...forget the tuning part j/k
He also appears to be wearing more of a gladiator type skirt rather than a kilt, though the sporran get's the message across.
Very cool show. Pare him up with the Red Hot Chili Pipers and Off-Kilter and that would be a fantastic show. "Alba Go ROCK!"
