From your comments you enjoy doing it and after all they are your creations. All the best with your endeavours
Thanks for the very kind words. I only worry about the lacing because it's a bit out of my comfort zone - design wise. I know in the big picture lacing is pretty minimal compared to metal cantles, diced hose and broad, shaped sporran chains.

Without further ado, #3 - the big gulp

The new cabochon shape and smaller toggles are cut of Ebony Macassar. My four year old saw the cabochon and immediately said "it looks like a bear's nose"

I managed to get the bag, belt, and sporran strap all done for today's Highland games.

It still needs breaking in, but hopefully will be off to a new home while I:

continue work on #4, start template designs for the Jacobite bag and a hunting sporran (5 & 6?) as well as continue to research and source materials for my full mask.

Finnished sporran looks great, those wood toggles blend, yet enhance the colour of the leather. I am really looking forward to seeing project of the hunting sporran. If it is of the same quality that you have exhibited so far, I for one would be extremely interested in adding to my sporran collection.
Once again thanks for the pics

Very nice colors, complementing each other.

    a suggestion

The only thing I might suggest is that you may get a very clean look if you were to countersink the beads and hide the knots on the end. That may be something you would like to try. It is only a suggestion. I am really impressed with your workmanship! Having been a crafts instructor for twelve years (in leatherwork, woodcarving, metalwork, and many other crafts) it is nice to see truly high quality work!

Thanks again! I probably won't be documenting further progress on #4 unless I do something different with it (who wants to see the same thing over and over?). I may shortly start a running documentary on #5, which WILL most likely be the hunting sporran based on how my earliest sketches are coming. I think the Jacobite is going to need a LOT more tweaking before I get to trial pattern cuts. I may start the pix with sketches, which is truly the start of the process, so keep an eye peeled.

Also, what colour does any/everyone want to see the hunter go in? Black or brown (which is they way I'd naturally lean).

Thank you for the very kind words and suggestion. I've thought about countersinking for a recessed knot. I haven't done it though, as I do like the Capuchin knot, and if I go to a finer 'cord' (possibly braided) I think the knot might look very smart. I'm still very on the fence, though, and may yet end up recessing the knots on this and any future bags.

    Inspiration

Having made a few of these sporrans myself I got to thinking. I really like the wooden beads. I am really inspired to make my own. I was thinking of making them in a thistle shape.

The lacing around the flap is subtle, not ostentatious...I think it works really well.

Besides, if you don't like it, you can always cut a pair of eyeholes, add another flap, get some stretchy pants and a cape, and be un luchador!

You have great attention to detail, as well as a good eye for design, sir. In talking to Lamar Britt and hearing him muse on new sporran designs and the construction process, I find that it is indeed his perfectionistic tendencies and detail oriented focus that produce very special sporrans. You two seem to both have the sporran making gene.

Exceedingly excelent work on the above sporran. I can't say enough good things about it. Keep it up, and I look forward to seeing your next creations!
