Sadly, the article, which was on canadiansoldiers.com, is no longer available.

That's to bad Todd, I would've liked to have read it. My favorite scene in LOTF is when the Highlander kicks the soccer ball out of the trench with flares flying overhead

Terry, I was in the regiment for a short time many years ago (early seventies). At that time I don't remember seeing very many tattoos on anyone in the regiment, and never a regimental crest or a calf tattoo. There were a few with forearm tattoos, but that was it. Things may be different now.
That's pretty cool. I wasn't getting inked at the time, but went with my nephew as moral encouragement on his inaugural visit

Yeah, sounds like things might be a wee bit different today (tattoos themselves more popular in all walks of life).

Indeed -- according to the article, quite a bit of WWI material ended up on the cutting room floor. Quite a few members of the Calgary Highlanders ended up in the movie.

Not a Regimental Crest but I do have a sgian dubh on my right calf. It's my most commented on tattoo. A security screener at Glasgow airport really liked it. When asked, I tell people it's for times when it is socially unacceptable to be armed I'm at least symbolically armed. They seem to appreciate that reason. Here is the pic.

That's some clean, bold linework man. Very sick. Who did the work on it?

Found this one of a Seaforth Highlander tossing the caber in the Highland Games, at the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada Community Ceilidh, 29 May 2010 (Vancouver, B.C.). It's a wee bit blurred, but note the tattoo on the right calf.
