Thanks for the great pics Alex. It's great to see photos of places I've never heard of and may never get to.

    Robert,
Everyone has their favorite regions of Scotland and it seems that many love (rightly soP) the highlands. I do have to say however that southern Scotland has some of the most beautiful scenery on this planet. Dumfries and Galloway + the Borders and add in Carlisle and Cumbria and (thanks to Alex back in April) the Yorkshire Dales in England. There you have my favorite places. Period. End of Story.

Seems to me you have ancestors from Dumfries and Galloway so shouldn't you and Chrystel and the wee bairns be thinking vacation?

Of course I forget I"m saying this to someone who live in 'another' of the most beautiful places on earth. Hmmm. Live in the Alps and vacation in Southern Scotland? Wife makes lovely kilts? Children are storybook gorgeous? Wow. er.....your life is close to perfect isn't it?

I used to shoot grouse near there many years ago.I also used to ride to hounds around there and yes it was great riding around those hills. I think the town of Langholm was also locally known as "MuckleToon"? I also seem to recall that the actor James Robertson Justice was born there. There seem to be more trees planted there than I remember. A real blast from the past for me there Alex, thank you.
