Hi, Megan (and hubby) and welcome to XMTS from the bottom end of Africa.
There is a village called Colchester that about 10 years ago was incorporated into the metropolis of which Port Elizabeth is the major settlement.
It lies on the river that forms the northern boundary of the metro, and is a place favoured for weekends away. The estuary cuts through a line of dunes to reach the sea.
I guess your Colchester is somewhat larger.
