The bears were on the CBC News again this morning. They are now known as the Bud Bears- why didn't I think of that? Wildlife officials visited the site yesterday and found the numbers were larger than previously believed- I think they said 18 blissful bears ambled up while they were there. The bears were in fact described as some of the fattest ever seen, and one was tame enough to be scratched behind the ears. The plan is that they will go into hibernation and emerge to find no more dog food is being put out and they will then drift off to wider areas, hopefully not eating any humans on the way. Personally I wonder how so many will find territories that aren't already occupied by non-pacified bears, but one hopes for the best. Whatever happens, this should be a good lesson to the Canadian public about the (more well-intended) feeding of our larger wildlife.
