Thank you all for your kind words. My wife has never been to any Scottish events yet, but she really looks forward to attending. She is a true lover of the tartan. I am blessed!

Better give her a big hug and thank her BogTrotter. It's nice to have a supportive wife, especially for our excentricities.

My wife surprised me the other day too. We were getting dressed to go to the local Intertribal Powwow (held every year on the Labor Day weekend) where various Indian tribes get together for dancing, etc. She told me she thought I should wear my kilt. And even more surprising, it was me that said no, it wasn't a good idea. I felt it would be disrespectful to them, taking attention away from their tribal dress in this area where a kilt is not usually seen. But I'm glad she's thinking that way!
Almost nothing in life can stoke a man's confidence like the support of a good woman.
It actually isn't that bad of an idea, your wife's. Prior mid-19th century Manifest Doctrine, the Tribal Nations and the Scottish Immigrants often were closely allied or good trading partners.
I've been to some dances were Grass dancers had tartan, or almost tartan colorations, to the traditional "strings" hanging from their dress (like for example one dancer who had the Black Watch sett if you take out the horizontal crossing of the sett). You might find this type of chose when the dancer's ancestry is both Tribal and Scottish.
