    i got a leather purse at goodwill for $1.60 so i took the strap off of that and its working pretty good.

    For me even a leather sporran strap didn't work to solve this problem. I use sporran straps from Oconee Leather. See the picture below

    I use a leather sporran belt and I put it on first get it to fit correctly so that it doesn't pull my kilt under my gut just a inch below my belly button. And toss my belt (2inches wide) on top of my sporran belt and it works out well. I also had that beach ball belly thing going at first and that's how I fixed it.
