Tremendous. I've been to Whitby a few times and never seen another kiltie there, bar me... I bet you had a blast. It certainly looks like great fun anyway.
EDIT: Love the link to your flicker album at the bottom of your post. Lots of great pics in there too. Like the trains.

I enjoyed these photos very much.
There seems to be a recurrent theme of huge bulky black boots in these people...Is this a new fashion that I am not aware of?

Great shots, Alex! Thank you for sharing them. I do, however fear for the sanity of some of the Auld Crabbits should they visit this thread and see the kilt abuse going on
Great shot of the Stanier Black 5, btw. One of my top ten favorite British steam engines!
Sir Nigel Gresley's work holds the top two positions though

Alex, I am surprised that no one has commented on your own smashing outift. Great stuff, that. What a great thread! I may have to put Whitby at Halloween on my wish list! Thanks for the great thread!
"Before two notes of the theme were played, Colin knew it was Patrick Mor MacCrimmon's 'Lament for the Children'...Sad seven times--ah, Patrick MacCrimmon of the seven dead sons....'It's a hard tune, that', said old Angus. Probably based on the early 19th century Moloney set in a museum.
The bottom of the bass regulator (the one that has the key he's touching with his middle finger) has a big U-bend which connects it to a contrabass regulator (nearest to the player's body).
Four-regulator sets are rare enough, but this style is rarer still. Probably a $20,000 set of pipes there.

The piper told me that his pipes were a replica of an old set which had been re-discovered a few yeas ago stored in a loft in New Zealand.
