While I think you look great and pull that off well, being a gentlemen of substance myself (that's such a great euphamism for my need to cut back on cheeseburgers!), I'm afraid I'd just look goofy wearing those.

Might I inquire as to the vendor of this waistcoat? I'd really like to have one like it.

When given a choice, most people will choose.

Scotweb has a small collection of silk handkerchiefs (72 tartans). Scotclans has a much broader collection of pocket squares, made of wool. Both places are across the pond, but look like around 10-15$ give or take.
Other options would be to procure a small bit and make your own. Possibly by ordering a swatch, or using scraps from a kilt you had made. I've got some PV coming in my tartan for a wee bit of reupholstering, and hope to have enough for a square.

Excellent ideas and pictures lads! Waistecoats, trews, ties, etc. All great ideas. Feel free to post links to tartan graments you post here as well. I've been searing for 'affordab;e' waistcoats and trews lately.

I think the most casual option by far was included in lethearen's list, and I'd like to give it another vote - the flat cap.
I'm not a fan of flatcaps worn with the kilt, but if you're looking for a casual tartan accessory to wear when NOT kilted, I don't think you can beat its versatility.

Many thanks all for the compliments... And for those that haven't worked up tp trews yet or a gentleman of substance, I would recommend giving it a try if the opportunity ever arises and seeing firsthand to decide if it suits one or not... Besides, don't they say that stripes are slimming..??
As to casual wear.. I have several pair and wear them both w/ jacket & tie as pictured, but also just a button down shirt, and sometimes a jumper or fleece as well if cooler outside. I find them perfect for both business and casual wear, and/or business-casual.
@ piperdbh - I picked up the yellow tattersall w'coat about 12yrs ago @ Nordstrom's when last living in Seattle and haven't seen one like it since.. well, except for the rare/odd one on ebay, twice via the seller Hogspear, and they both went for around US$150-$180 or thereabouts!
It's been a favourite of mine since and usually get 2-3+ compliments from strangers on the street. But it's starting to wear and I've been looking to replace it, unfortunately it seems I may have to have someone do a custom weave or something, or settle for something that looks like but not quite... Sorry couldn't be of more assistance.
Cheers,
Christian

Since my work dictates a rather conservative wardrobe..think undertaker... I have a matching tartan tie and muffler for those chlly winds ...the combination has drawn several nice complements.
