The St Kilda I have dealt with is in the Canongate in Edinburgh but I don't think this is the one others are referring to.

Besides the St Kilda name, the Canongate shop is also known as Nicholson Kilts so perhaps they are different.

Actually, that was the shop name (Nicholson Kilts) before St. Kilda bought them. I was trying to think of it, but now that you say it, I'm 100% sure of it. Same company. Again, really nice folks.
EDIT
Here's the REAL scoop (fresh from the owner's mouth):
Gaelic Themes, RG Hardies, and Vernons (their jacket tailoring) are the wholesale arms.
Tartanweb is the online arm.
St. Kilda is the retail arm.
The jackets trade under 2 brand names: The Wallace Collection and St. Kilda. They're both made the same by the same division (Vernon Brothers).
Viking Technology USED to be their technology arm, but was replaced with "Tartan Web".
St. Kilda is also franchised in Germany and Australia by 2 other guys who are also very nice...

OK then, that being the case, I was very pleased with the value, speed of service and quality of goods when I obtained my nine yard Muted Nicholson kilt from them.

I had a great experience purchasing a "Holyrood" jackt and waistcoat from them (actually a Brian Boru/ Irish version of the PC) during a recent clearence sale. Quality item, easy customer service (I am not a really common standard size but they found one), quick shipping and no concerns.
Other than 3 or 4 Scottishkilts/Tartanweb kilts (3 machine and one hand sewn) I have not dealt specifically with ST Kilda about kilts, but Tartanweb does not try to hide on their website that their jackets are of St Kilda origin.

I have a Tweed Argyll Jacket & 5-button waistcoat from St Kilda and I am very pleased with the quality of the item. I am sorry I can not speak specifically for the kilts.
