Well, I suppose if you compare the price of the doublet to the cost of a tuxedo, the price isn't any where near as eye-watering as it initially seems.
Nice clothes cost money and, at least in my opinion, are worth saving up for.

Think this style is more or less their own invention, but none the worse for that as it mainly conforms to what is expected. IMHO more suited to Black tie....

I don't think it's their invention. I posted a number of 100 year old photos showing the same jacket (except for the Argyll cuffs).

I'm not sure how you come to this conclusion. They are clearly offering a doublet based on the doublet that Prince Charles wears. His doublet was obviously derived from earlier styles that Richard has cited.
