Those were amazing guys! To march into certain death...mercy.
Indeed they were. I'm hoping to visit the Alamo (and maybe Goliad) this Summer when we're down visiting family.

I've found that most relationships work best when no one wears pants.

The SA Scottish Society in March does a ceremony at the Alamo and a dedication in April in memory of the Scots who perished there. Very moving.

Yep, that's the ceremony our convener participates in.

I have a project where I have a flag flown at historic sites and monuments. I try to get it done during special events for that site. While it wasn't on the 175th I did have it flown on March 6th. Also had it flown on April 21st at San Jacinto.

I'm a member of the Alamo Society, if you are not already a member consider joining.

And, the Alamo Society, run by Bill Chemerka, also meets near the Alamo each year the same weekend. (I can't attend this year.)

For those that attend the San Antonio Highland Games each weekend near Tartan Day, there is a wreathe-laying ceremony at the 'Mo.

We've attended the Tartan Day commemoration at the Alamo (which occurs the Friday evening before the San Antonio Highland Games commence — April 1, this year) the last couple of years and are planning to be there again this year. It's a small ceremony, but nicely done.

On a Texas history related note, has anyone been to the Menger Hotel across (the alley?) from the Alamo? I'm hoping to make it to their bar and have a drink, as it was there that Teddy Roosevelt opened a recruiting office for the 1st US Volunteer Cavalry in 1898.

Todd:
I have propped up that bar on more than one occasion...
It's a very small bar: dark wood, cigar-friendly, with taxidermied animals (including a moose head) and the requisite historical markers.
Interestingly, the Menger Bar is a replica of the House of Lords Pub in London, complete with a small upstairs (which doesn't leave much headroom for you taller types...).
And did I mention that it's haunted?
Enjoy!

P.S. The pinto pony and the Navajo are nowhere to be seen these days...
