The postman called this morning with a parcel from the Court of the Lord Lyon. It contained my Letters Patent granting me the right to Armorial Bearings.
The blazon runs as follows:-
"Argent, a shakefork Sable cantoned between in chief a cogwheel and in each flank a four-bladed propeller Gules. Above the Shield is placed an Helm befitting of his degree with a Mantling Sable double Argent, and on a Wreath of the Liveries is set for Crest a unicorn's head armed Or langued Gules charged of a cogwheel Azure, and in an Escrol over the same this Motto "Alterum non Laedere". "
The Unicorn head and the Shakefork reflect my Cunningham lineage while the propeller and cogwheel reflect my father's and my own involvement in aviation and grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfathers' careers in engineering, since my great-great-grandfather's employment in the early eighteen hundreds as steam engine keeper to a textile mill.
