I looked it over after I read your post and I changed some things around on it and you're right. The flap does go on the latch side and the flap sits under the buckle. As it was suggested by M.A.C. Newsome I moved the straps close to the buckle on either side and it looks perfect.
I appreciate everyone getting me straightened out with this. I don't want to look too much like a newbie when I go out.
