    One thing about the MacLaren modern, the yellow really stands out, my vote would be for the ancient or weathered.

    The first pipe band I played in, back in the 1970s, wore MacLaren (ancient colours) heavyweight kilts. Those kilts were lovely! Such nice glowing colours.

    I myself might have gone with that Caithness tartan because it's unusual and interesting. I don't know if it's a recent design or an old one, but it has the "look" of an authentic 18th century pre-clan tartan, complex and many-coloured.
