I thought I had already posted this but it never showed up. If it does please delete the extras.
I want to thank everyone for their information and opinions. I am new to all the different types of kilts and their quirks. I was not aware of the narrowness of the apron could make any difference in comfort, though I am not sure how this would effect me personally. I am still researching and open to suggestions of kilts to look at. I am leaning heavily towards an Alt.Kilt but I do have a lot of time to choose.

My 2 cents worth; Of the three you mentioned, the Utilikilt and Alt.kilt have the narrow aprons with snaps or buttons on the apron. The Freedom kilts have the wider Scottish style apron, with no snaps. To me personally, this looks a little plain without a sporran. Because of that, I think of the Freedom as slightly more like a pair of slacks than a pair of jeans. A little dressier. To me, the biggest difference between the three is the pleats. Interstingly, you picked three different kinds! The Freedoms have the traditional knife pleats, that go the same way all the way from left all the way around to the right. The Utilikilts also have knife pleats, but they start back from each side, and meet in the middle in the back. (It's called a "reverse Kingussie" style. Not very common) The Alt.kilt has box pleats.
It is important to note (if you're not of "average" build) that the Alt.kilt and the Freedoms are made to order. Just for you. The Utilikilt asks only for your waist and your length, and assumes you have an "average" sized butt.
Like Cowher said, we agonize over which one to get, and then get the bug and end up with all three anyway....
Oh yeah, and while you're waiting, look at lots of pictures, and notice guys of your age and build that look good in a kilt. How high on their waist do they wear it? How low on their knees do they wear it? By the time you're ready to order one, you'll know just how you want to wear it, and how to order it.
Have Fun,
Java

"...what do you want to do in your kilt... ...how you want to look in your kilt..."
Highest of ALL considerations is;
"Who will be wearing your kilt?" (just you)
NO other opinion counts before or after yours.
I'll be buried in my kilt.
AHHH tennnnn HUT

. . . ON.

Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?

So to answer this question: It is going to be a everyday/do everything kinda kilt. Of course that does not mean black tie affairs but I want to be able to wear it hiking or throw a polo shirt on and go to a business casual event. I dunno if that makes sense or is possible but is my thoughts.

If I may suggest.
This forum has a dedicated section for our advertising kiltmakers. If you would like to ask specific questions there I am sure you will get all the information, directly from the owner/kiltmaker, that you could ever want.
Please know however that I have been known to give far more information than you ever thought you wanted to know.

I will definately do that. I had already started emailing some kilters but hadn't got too far. And I am the type of person that the more information the better. I research and plan to an extreme at times.
