I love the Kells artwork too, I like the way it pulls different Celtic elements together on this targe.

To the rest of you who commented, thank you very much for the compliments. I have a real passion for making targes. To me designing the layout of the different elements is just as much fun as the actual construction of it.

That's what I felt with mine! I really want to make a more simple one in the near future. I'd love to find someone else to fund it...

Thanks Nighthawk!
You did a fantastic job on yours.
Seriously, they can be an expensive hobby to collect. I would be interested to know how many members have a targe.

Well, no, but if you're interested... Actually, I was hoping to maybe find someone who wants to buy one off of me! I wouldn't have it when it was done, but I would have a nice portfolio piece! I'm putting my own targe up in my tent at the festivals this summer, so who know?

Thanks. I do appreciate that. I have some things that I will be improving upon in the future. I had a hard time getting the nails to go in straight, so several are out of place, for example!

I had the same problem initially. What I do is use a drill bit that's smaller than nail shank diameter and pre-drill shallow holes. For me this applies to the front only because they are mostly decorative. The nails on the back are there to secure it so you just have to tough it out there, pull em and re-nail if you like.

I used a steel nail that smaller than the tacks. Problem with pulling and replacing the ones that are bent is that there is now a scar in the leather...
