Even though I wore a deerstalker for many years (and had about half a dozen different ones at various stages), I would go with Macman on this one – not with the kilt.

Love the hat and think it would go well with the kilt (daywear). I have one somewhere that belonged to my late father, must go through the shed and try to locate it.

Ok Ok forgot about the Sherlock connection. I would also need the pipe! ith:
How about a harris tweed flat cap in Blue Barleycorn. I usually wear baseball caps but they don't go with the kilt.

Or a Harris Tweed Carloway 8 Piece Cap in same colour as above.

The flat cap has my vote! I wasn't much for the deerstalker but I really do think the flat cap is a perfect match for both the jacket and the kilt.

They only offer up to a 7 3/4 size hat. I wish they made these hats for those of us with man-sized heads.

Absolutely. Perfectly acceptable for day wear with the kilt, and a much better all around choice than the flat cap.

Some will tell you the flat cap shouldn't be worn with a kilt. To that I say bollocks. I LOVE flatcaps!!! I think all 3 tops you mentioned are good choices with the kilt.
Ya know it's funny how some say a ascot is dated and turns ones outfit into a costume (costume in the trick or treat sence) but a deer stalker is acceptable. As I remember Sherlock Homes wore both a deerstalker and a ascot.

The local farmers up here wear flat caps, with boiler suits and wellington boots. For formal wear they take off their caps!

Any of those will be fine, as long as they're worn with a Douglas-tartan kilt.

Actually, there is nowhere in the Holmes canon that mentions a deerstalker. I was told that when Sir Basil Rathbone wore one to play Holmes it was the first time, and it has become the classic image since then.
