Well, this kinda got my interest and I wanted to visualize what the tartan might look like, so I used the thread count info provided on the STA site, and used the tartan designer software on Scotweb to mock it up. I didn't know exactly which colors to use, so I used the weaver's palette, using the following colors: putty yellow, lichen, pewter blue, bright scarlet, peroxide white.
Here's what I got.

Sorry, man... Could you maybe tell us where you got the sta# reference number from? Or where you learned about the tartan? It might help to track it down...
I entered the number into the Tartan Ferret and the Afghanistan tartan came back in seconds. That one is run by the STA. There isn't a picture of the sett though, just a pic of the thread count, if you see what I mean.

Here's a couple
To CDN...your representation is pretty darned accurate. The tan on the real tartan appears just a touch more mustardy than you have depicted...but it still definitely a tan. Here's some pics of a kilt in it.

Yeah, the variation between monitors and even the way each of us perceives colour makes some difference. I chose the one that looked the most "tan" to me from the Scotweb colour set... But you're right. I think I got it rather close.
Thanks for posting a picture of the actual kilt and flashes. It's a very handsome tartan indeed.

On J Higgins it calls it the Afghanistan Campaign tartan. So, is this intended for those who were in military service in Afghanistan (as opposed to a District tartan)?

I have seen the Strathmore Afghanstan tartan and it is really wonderful, monitors can never do the cloth justice.
Everyone in class kept going back to look at it (and also the "Chinese Scottish"...see website on Chirs#5 reply; 7th down) that was really nice too in "real "life.

Yes, definitely. If you read the blurb on this tartan, it "commemorates but in no way celebrates the conflict..."
