Nick, I'll do my part and spread the word. Actually, I've already done so in the past year. I bought a special weave, MacDonagh, and had Wallace Catanach, of Waterfall Kilts, hand stitch it for me. What a wonderful kilt, and Wallace siad it was THE BEST material he's ever worked with.
Well, we had Dalgliesh, again, do a special run just before Christmas, on the MacDonagh.....24 yds., for my two sons and myself. This tartan is lighter in color than the original. Two of the kilts are completed and I await mine. Gotta post pics soon.
Anyway, I wish you all the best, and I sincerely hope that Dalgliesh can continue. What a woderful product they produce!
Come on rabble...buy D.C. Dalgliesh. We can't lose this icon!!!!!

Nick,
Thanks for taking the risk and keeping this very important business afloat. I import a lot of cloth from Dalgleish, and they really are the last of the old-school, traditional tartan weavers out there. Traditional selvage. Quality wool. As a kiltmaker, it's a joy to work with their fabric. I just love it.
I can say without hesitation that if I were unable to purchase short lengths of heavy weight tartan from Dalgleish, I really would not enjoy kiltmaking near as much. (And this is not to say anything dismissive about Lochcarron or House of Edgar - I order a lot of tartan from both of those firms, and they each have their strong points. But the ability to order short lengths of non-stocked tartans is a real factor here).
When people order kilts from me in a non-stocked tartan, I always have the cloth woven by Dalgleish. But those on this thread have brought up a good point. Just because your tartan is stocked by every tartan supplier out there does not mean you cannot also opt to have your tartan woven by this (dare I coin the term?) heritage mill.
I know it costs a little more to have the cloth custom woven -- but not prohibitively more. And, just to encourage people to consider doing that, I will for the next month (from now till the end of May), offer $50 off the price of a custom woven kilt ordered via my web site, if you indicate when you order that you want D. C. Dalgleish to weave the fabric.

(Sorry, Nick, if you feel this constitutes advertising for myself in your thread, let me know and I'll remove it. But I just, as I was writing this, had the inspirtation).
I'm off now to check out the new version of the web site....

Good luck with this, Nick! I'd love to have one (maybe more? ) of my designs woven some day and a firm that will do small lots of cloth will help make it more affordable.
It's a bold move and you and Adele deserve a lot of credit for taking the risk to preserve a treasure like this.
Regards,
Brian

Thanks to you all for your kind and positive responses. And Matt, no I've no problem with your generous offer... every bit helps. :-)
But could I reiterate that whilst extra sales are of course always welcome in the short term, of even more long term value would be any support anyone can give by way of helping to spread the word more widely. That's our biggest challenge.
So if any of you have web sites or blogs, or are members of organisations who do, could I particularly highlight this page, and beg of you to consider taking one of the banners to link with: http://www.dcdalgliesh.co.uk/support.html
And any other ideas for how to spread the word are always welcome!

I will need a pipers plaid for my winter uniform. I will do my part to help. I am also slowly designing a tartan for my family. I hope to have kilts made for many in my family who want one. That won't be until this time next year. I wish you all the best and prey the mill can survive. Quality is dying because of the poor economy. I hope we can hold tight on this mill. good luck!

This is great Nick. In the last few years too many of these traditional houses in so many production fields have closed down. It is heartening to see someone putting themselves on the line to try and save it, as it benefits us all as a community. I was leaning towards Dagliesh for my next project, now there is no question.

As someone that does a fair bit by way of specials with Dalgliesh, the Culloden revival being a recent example, and having some orders in hand, I'm amazed to learn that the firm had in effect gone to the wall. Well done Nick for stepping in: the firm cannot be allowed to disappear.

Congratulations, thank you, and hold tight, Nick. We'll have 100yds + coming your way shortly. We just need to get a few colour choices squared away.

Good on you Nick for saving the Dalgliesh weaving business.
If it hadn't been for the Dalgliesh weave I would never have been able to obtain my McConnell tartan kilt.
Jobs are really hard to come by in the Scottish Borders right now so you have done good by saving the jobs of the millworkers.
