I think it is a question of balance or imbalance. If his C2H5OH levels aren't right then it causes him to lose his balance.

There appears to be more than one Pride of Scotland tartan. The most common one (owned by McCalls of Aberdeen) only has one white stripe, while the one Hasselhoff is wearing has two white stripes. It appears to be same tartan as the one identified as "Pride of Scotland" on the Atlanta Kilts website here.
