I don't think that strap/chain will really make much of a difference one way or the other. True mask sporrans look a bit more like this:



Perhaps a plain leather sporran would give a more "understated" effect...

I really like that chain, but metal links rubbing against fabric can wear a thin place in your kilt. Don't use the chain very often, in other words.

I have been using a chain with my 80% polyester, 20% wool budget kilt almost every day for the past few months and not noticed anything on the kilt due to the chain. But I will probably get a leather strap for my new tank when it arrives.
