Very smart indeed!
Ironic that I, an American, have been wearing the kilt 35 of my 54 years while you, a Scot, are a relative newcomer!
All of your ensembles look very nice to me.
At one time I was a card-carrying member of Clan Donald USA so I'm envious of your MacDonald kilt collection. I especially like what you're wearing in the top photo, both the kilt and the overall kit. Lovely colours in that kilt- modern colours but not too dark (as "modern colours" often are).
Here's a very old photo of me, from the early 1980s, wearing the standard MacDonald tartan (House Of Edgar's "muted" range) and even wearing a tartan necktie (oh the horror) ...

The only issue I see is wearing a belt with your waistcoat in the first picture with the black argyle. Otherwise, spot on!

A classic look
Thanks OC Richard, but you look more a scotsman than I do, AND you are a piper also - I envy you. A classic look you have there (apparantly the tartan tie is excuseable as long as you break the colours - as with your waistcoat).
Regards
Alex

Richard -- if you haven't already put one together, I'd love to see a thread of your photos of Highland rig from the early 1980s.
Call me sentimental, but everyday I miss the 1980s more and more.

I think your own ensembles there are great, good taste combined with your own character. I habitually wear clan tartan flashes specifically because I have a non-clan kilt and I like to 'fly the flag' regardless. I like to see formal attire with a proper tie like that rather than lace etc, though for some reason I'm less keen on those socks - a bit dark?.
If I had to choose, I'd say I like the third, the Isles, most: understated but impeccable.

I put up quite a few 80s photos in the "one kilt ten looks" thread, and a fairly recent thread here "my 1980s kilted wedding".
I don't want to derail this thread with my old photos!

Hi there I am new here myself. I have joined as my husband has long wanted to be a regular kilt wearer and has just "taken the plunge"
,My role is kind of "fashion police" to help him with whats ok and whats not ;)...also am morphing into kiltmaker as well lol..
If I may say, you look very smart and comfortable.. I do think the brown shoes/sporran with the lovat green argyll and hose look exactly right, as do black shoes/semidress black sporran with the darkblue/black argyll for a more dressy look......my husband has brown leathers for daywear or with his green argyll and black for occasions,.

Thanks and more power to your elbow
Hi Pam
Thanks for your kind comments. Although I'm scots, it's a new venture for me also. Learned a lot from this site and others and yes, beginning to match my leathers etc. Saw the pics of you hubby on your other post - lovely kilt and a great bargain. Great to hear of a welshman wanting to wear the kilt. Always got on well with my welsh mates when I was in the forces - we have so much in common.
Hope your aspirations to becoming a kiltmaker come to fruition.
Regards
Alex
